(22) Upper Chippokes Creek

December 1608

Prince George, VA

About

Smith was here perhaps twice, once on a trading voyage in December 1608 and again surveying for a possible siting of a fort, spring 1609.

Siting

Not set. Proposed site is on the north bank 3-1/2 miles airline upstream SE from Chippokes Point.

The little town of Claremont, which includes the mouth of Upper Chippokes Creek, is justifiably proud of its connection to the Quiyoughcohannock Indians. This marker sits prominently in the center of the town circle.
